Roy Hodgson confirmed in his press-conference that Christian Benteke will be injured for six weeks – leaving many Crystal Palace fans reeling at the news here in the Transfer Tavern.
Just as Crystal Palace’s season couldn’t get any worse, their manager, Roy Hodgson confirmed that Belgian striker Christian Benteke will be sidelined through injury for six weeks.
The experienced Benteke injured his knee during the Eagles’ 5-0 defeat at Manchester City which serves as a considerable loss for Palace.
And he’s going to be out for some time with Hodgson saying – as quoted by BBC Sport:
“He [Benteke] has ligament damage which will keep him out for a minimum of six week.”
The 26-year-old scored 17 goals in all competitions last season, and his team are enduring a period of woeful form.
Throughout Premier League history, no team before Palace had played their opening six games of the season without scoring a goal. The Eagles are currently situated at the bottom of the Premier League table devoid of a single point or even a single goal.
And this weekend they head to Manchester United, so that goal-less streak really could continue.
Despite his disappointing start to the new campaign, Benteke is undeniably one of Crystal Palace’s most important and valued players. His absence will be tough for Palace to process.
The club will have to get on with it, though, and it remains to be seen if someone else steps up to score the goals.
