Big changes reportedly coming at Liverpool after poor display against Tottenham

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are still struggling to get over the embarrassment of their side’s loss to Tottenham over the weekend. It was a shocking performance from the Reds, with very few positive takeaways for Jurgen Klopp, and in many ways, the manner in which they lost the game serves as a microcosm for their season so far. They’ve been consistently poor lately and have had little to celebrate, and that is sure to give Klopp a real headache as he looks to turn the ship around.

The German, though, has clearly had enough – that much was evident from his expressions on the sidelines over the weekend. As a result, at least according to the Mirror, big changes could be coming. The Mirror reports that the manager is ready to tear up his playbook, with a number of major personnel changes coming, particularly in defence. The likes of Dejan Lovren and Simon Mignolet’s places are under fire, with the likes of Loris Karius, Trend Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez now being considered for a regular starting berth.

It would certainly be a big move from the manager to make such drastic changes, but something clearly has to change. It’s more than just a blip at this point, it’s clear that there is a major issue with the players that have been chosen for much of the campaign. In the case of Lovren, in particular, his confidence is likely to be shot and he needs to be removed from the team for a while.

That said, the likes of Joe Gomez and Trend Alexander-Arnold have looked very good indeed this season when given a chance, and so they are certainly deserving of a chance.

One thing is certain, changes simply need to happen if Klopp is to turn his season around.

Landlord’s Verdict

These changes have come a few weeks late, but it’s better late than never for the Reds.

They need to really turn their form around, and a few of the underperforming stars are showing no signs of picking up their form. Will this change things? It remains to be seen – but it will be a good start.
