The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping they can go some way into eradicating their Wembley woe against Barnsley this evening.
Indeed, while the win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League was something to shout about, Spurs drew with Swansea City over the course of the weekend and are yet to win a ‘home’ game in the Premier League there.
With that in mind, reports from the Daily Mirror have gone down well this evening.
They claim Mauricio Pochettino is set to hand Dele Alli a start against the traveling Tykes, in an effort to get the 21-year-old back to his best. It’s been a fairly slow season for the England international, despite his opening day goal against Newcastle United and Pochettino is understood to want to give him every chance to recover top form.
No goals in two games has somewhat worried our north London locals, who want to see their star man dominate the Championship outfit as they build-up for a huge clash away at West Ham this weekend.
“He needs the freedom to be natural and to express himself”, said his Argentine manager.
“The most important thing is to be there if he needs us and, sometimes, to try to help before he asks.
“I think he is still very young. His potential is massive. He did very well last season and its not easy for a young player to keep this level and show this level in every game.
“It is about maturity. Its about finding your balance in training. Competing, in your life, everything. The player is not only what we see on the pitch. He is not a number.”
Alli’s early season form last term wasn’t much to shout about either, though he certainly improved. Hopefully, for Spurs, he can deliver a big performance tonight and get ready for West Ham this weekend, a huge game for Pochettino’s men.
