The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern don’t want any major departures this summer. The Red Devils are clearly a team that is improving, but they could take a step back if anyone was to leave.
However, our landlord thinks that the departure of Juan Mata is seriously overdue, and he’s calling for the Spaniard, who is rated at £27 million by Transfer Markt, to move on this summer.
After all, it’s hardly been a remarkable few years for the Spaniard. He was forced out of Chelsea by Jose Mourinho, and then, not long after he joined Real Madrid, Mourinho came back to haunt him. It didn’t go quite as badly as most had feared, but it’s fair to say that in the time since, Mata’s significance has seriously reduced at Old Trafford.
He’s no longer the focal point of the team that he once was, and instead, he’s had to settle for a role on the bench more often than not. Clearly, then, perhaps he should be considering his future. It’s already cost him a spot at the World Cup this summer, and who knows what it could cost him as time goes on.
Given Man Utd’s recent transfer policy – which has seen some big names join the club in recent years – you’d expect his significance to only go down as time goes on, and that means that this problem is only going to worsen.

Furthermore, at 30-years-old, the Spaniard is in the final years of his peak, and so he’s at a bit of a crossroads in his career. If he continues to have a bit-part role, his career could go from bad to worse.
