It has been a tough few days for the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern…
After their fantastic performance against Atletico Madrid last week, a poor showing against Man City saw the Blues slip to a 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge – draining all of the enthusiasm from the fans in the Transfer Tavern.
Indeed, Chelsea are now six points away from the top of the Premier League table, and so it’s going to be a real struggle for them to claw that back, particularly with Man City and Man Utd playing so well.
That task is going to be far more difficult than expected, too, with news filtering out from the BBC suggesting that Alvaro Morata’s injury problems are far worse than anticipated. He came off against Man City in what appeared to be a precautionary move, but that no longer seems to be the case. A spell of 4-8 weeks is anticipated for his lay-off, leaving the fans in the Transfer Tavern ripping their hair out.
Morata has, of course, been in sensational form so far this season, having a similar effect to that of Diego Costa last term. Without him, Chelsea look particularly light up-front.
Michy Batshuayi is the obvious candidate to step up, but given that Antonio Conte went for Willian instead of the Belgian against Man City, it remains to be seen who he will go for over the next few weeks.
This is going to be tough for the Blues to get past.
The only saving grace for Chelsea is that the Blues aren’t set to play for nearly two weeks, meaning that Alvaro Morata can spend a few days properly recovering without the pressure of rushing back for games.
That said, if the 4-8 week estimate rings true, then he’ll still miss a number of games for Chelsea – both domestically and in the Champions League.
Michy Batshuayi has looked good this year, though, so perhaps the Belgian will finally earn his stripes.
