Although Everton were not in action in the Carabao Cup last night, the resident Toffees in the Transfer Tavern were interested in Arsenal’s clash with Chelsea at The Emirates Stadium.
Sam Allardyce has been busy in the mid-season window so far this month, as he has brought Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott to the club and also allowed Ross Barkley to depart for the current Premier League champions. Barkley has been injured for almost 8 months, and until yesterday evening he was yet to kick a ball since the final fixture of the 2017/2017 season.
However, Barkley made his long-awaited return to football last night after 30 minutes of Chelsea’s semi-final second-leg fixture against Arsenal when he entered the fray to replace the injured Willian.
His return to football was one of the key talking points in the aftermath of proceedings, and his performance has been intensely scrutinised by pundits and fans alike. The general consensus is that Barkley hardly set the world on fire on his Chelsea debut, although that was hardly surprising given the circumstances of his recent injury woes.
Despite this, plenty of Chelsea supporters have been far less than understanding of Barkley’s situation, but the lions share of criticism has come from Everton supporters who were delighted to see their former employee struggling to influence the game in Chelsea blue.
And judging by the reaction so far, it seems that The Toffees will certainly not be missing Barkley on Merseyside.
Here’s how the Everton fans expressed their delight at Barkley’s misery on Twitter…
Big Sam did well to sell Barkley

‘Corner last minute, there could be a goal, ah it’s a poor delivery from Barkley and that’s the final whistle.’

The keeper going up for a last minute corner only for Ross Barkley to hit the first man. You can take the boy out of Everton…
