Big talks ‘underway’ as Mike Ashley looks to fulfil Newcastle United transfer promise

It’s been a fairly bright couple of weeks for Newcastle fans here in the Tavern, as they hope their side will look to improve on their current form with the addition of a couple of key players.

Newcastle United have been fearing for their life in the Premier League as relegation back to the Championship looked to be looming. But, Rafa Benitez’s side have shown courage and spirit in recent times, as they look to climb away from relegation troubles.

And, they seem to be making huge strides in doing this. As according to reports in the Chronicle Live, Newcastle United are currently in negotiation with a club for a striker that they expect would break their current transfer fee of £16 million.

However, this is heavily dependent on whether Mike Ashley will stay true to his word to stump up the funds for the deal to go through. Because if the past is anything to go by, Ashley’s greediness could be a difficult barrier to overcome for Benitez, who recently revealed the Sports Direct mogul had promised to splash the cash.

Indeed, in a side that currently has the ineffective Joselu leading their line with only four goals to his name in 22 appearances for the club, it doesn’t take a genius to see that the Spaniard’s goalscoring record isn’t fit enough to lead an attack that was once home to Alan Shearer in yesteryear.

Landlord’s Verdict:

The addition of a new striker would be huge for the club, with a lack of goals being the downfall in their season so far, a proven goalscorer could inject some fire into what’s a rather tame Newcastle attack.

Indeed, for Newcastle to break their record in bringing in a striker, he could potentially be the next big thing on Tyneside if the sum is anything to go by.

Nevertheless, a huge statement being made from the Magpies and Mike Ashley, that could send shock waves running through the Premier League.
