‘Biggest waste of money’ – Everton fans slam one man following Arsenal thumping

Everton supporters in the Transfer Tavern were once again left bemoaning a poor display from their side after seeing the Toffees go down 5-2 at home to Arsenal on Sunday, a result which saw the Merseyside club fall into the Premier League’s bottom three.

Ronald Koeman’s men went into their clash with the North London giants having won just two of their opening eight league games, but gave themselves an early lead at Goodison Park thanks to Wayne Rooney’s fourth league goal of the campaign. However, that appeared to rile Arsene Wenger’s side who then bagged four unanswered goals through Nacho Monreal, Mesut Ozil, Alexandre Lacazette, and Aaron Ramsey to assert their dominance, and although Oumar Niasse pulled one back for the hosts late on, it was Alexis Sanchez who had the final say with a fine strike in the final minute of added time.

And it was a defeat and performance which has brought about even bigger questions regarding the future of Everton boss Koeman, who spent in excess of £100 million during the summer in a bid to bridge the gap to the top six, yet has picked up just eight points from their opening nine matches.

And one man who has come in for much criticism so far this season is summer signing Gylfi Sigurdsson, who cost £40 million back in August after impressing during his three-year stint at Premier League rivals Swansea City.

However, the Iceland international has struggled at Goodison Park and is yet to make a meaningful impact on Merseyside, and put in another below-par display on Sunday to further frustrate and anger several Evertonians, many of whom took to Twitter to underline their disappointment with the 28-year-old…
