The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern hoping that Slaven Bilic will be able to turn their season around…
Just like last year, West Ham have struggled in the early stages of the 2017/18 Premier League campaign, and are currently sat in 17th place in the division.
There is more than enough time to turn things around, of course, and the signs are there that they are beginning to improve, but it’s going to be a very long road ahead for Slaven Bilic.
Unfortunately, then, it came as a blow when the manager confirmed via the official West Ham website that Pedro Obiang would be out of West Ham’s upcoming clash with Tottenham. He missed West Ham’s mid-week fixture, and that unavailability looks set to extend to this weekend too.
However, Bilic remains hopeful of a return again Swansea: “Hopefully he’ll be ready for Swansea”.
Obiang will be a big miss for the Hammers, having been a key part of proceedings so far this season. He has made 3 Premier League starts already, as well as one appearance from the bench.
An excellent defensive player, Tottenham will be pleased that he isn’t available, and so Bilic will have a big task on his hands as he looks to manoeuvre around this.
Fortunately, West Ham have a number of potential solutions in the role, and so Bilic won’t be too concerned. It will, though, likely put more pressure on the West Ham defence, so the likes of Winston Reid and Jose Fonte will need to step their game up.
West Ham desperately need a win as they look to secure early safety and push their way back up the table.
