It is thought that they will turn their attention to the 28 year old Russian following Ryan Babel’s out right refusal to join the Midlands outfit. Rafa Benitez had been willing to sell Babel after Birmingham offered £10m but the Dutch striker has turned down the chance to move.
McLeish has already passed on a £14m move for Sunderland’s Kenwyne Jones as he feels the price is too high but he is still in the hunt for a ‘burly forward’ who can hold up the ball so a move Pavlyuchenko could now be on the agenda.
The Spurs outcast is desperate for a move away from White Hart Lane and Birmingham are willing to pay £10m upfront to Tottenham who are looking to cut their losses.
If Birmingham fail with their attempts to sign the Russian, Lens forward Aruna Dindane, who is om loan at Portsmouth, is another option especially as the French side are complaining about the south coast club’s lack of payment for the Ivorian international.
