Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has made a fresh enquiry for Red Bull Salzburg striker Marc Janko after failing to sign strikers Roman Pavlyuchencko from Tottenham and Aruna Dindane from Lens, according to the Daily Mail.
McLeish is keen to strengthen his striking options before the transfer window closes and is keen to bring in the 26 year old Austrian, who was linked with a move to St. Andrews in December.
After the 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Saturday, McLeish told Sky Sports:
“I’m trying to help up front and I think we could do with another body up front,” he said.
“I have to think seriously over the next 48 hours whether we break the bank or we get somebody in who can help out until the end of the season, possibly a loan.”
Janko is a 6ft 5ins striker who has excelled in Austria for Salzburg, scoring 67 goals in 92 games and seven in 14 appearances for the Austrian national team. But the doubt remains about whether Janko, who had the best strike ratio in Europe last year with 39 league goals in 34 games, could make a successful transition to the Premier League.
The likes of Portsmouth, Fulham and Celtic have been interested in Janko in the past and now Birmingham are keen to add the Austrian as cover for first choice strikers Cameron Jerome and Christian Benitez.
Is there any substance to this? Should the rumour Fly or Die?
