Blackburn Rovers are believed to be one of the clubs chasing Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy but face tough competition from Sunderland, Fulham, Bolton and Birmingham with Arsenal and Liverpool having ruled themselves out of the race for the 33 year old Dutchman.
Van Nistelrooy boasts an impressive scoring record with 46 goals in 68 games for Real prior to injury problems and big money signings. He joined the club in 2006 from Manchester United for whom he’d scored an impressive 150 goals in 220 appearances.
Van Nistelrooy’s age is counting against him now along with Real having replaced him with luxury, big money signings and the striker is reportedly available for a fee as low as £3 million and is willing to consider joining smaller teams as he sees out his career. Van Nistelrooy’s agent has remained coy on the subject, telling The Sun
“I can’t discuss Ruud’s move – it will remain private until such a time as Real decide.”
The signing of van Nistelrooy would prove a massive coup for struggling Blackburn and his goals would prove a big lift to a club struggling to deal with the loss of key players like Roque Santa Cruz. Although he’s reaching the twilight of his career van Nistelrooy still offers goal as he’s a born goalscorer.
