The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Pep Guardiola will be able to seal a few major transfers before the World Cup begins. Whilst the Citizens had a dominant campaign last term, it’s crucial that they continue to improve ahead of next year, and they’re yet to do that.
Unfortunately for them, though, they don’t appear to be any closer to landing a crucial new signing.
According to the Mirror, Man City have been handed a significant setback in their pursuit of Napoli midfielder Jorginho. The Mirror reports that the Citizens are going to have to fork out an extra £13 million if they want to get their man, with Napoli wanting £52 million for him. Man City have, thus far, only made a bid of £39 million.
Furthermore, Chelsea are reportedly said to be interested in him, and so there should be a very real concern from the Etihad that this deal may not be as easy as they would have hoped.
Fortunately, there is still a long time before the summer window closes, not to mention the fact that the uncertainty surrounding Chelsea’s managerial situation could prove problematic for them to secure any deal.
Still, this isn’t what Man City fans will want to hear.
A move for Jorginho makes a lot of sense for Man City.
They need a combative midfielder that can rival Fernandinho, and he’d also be able to do a job alongside the Brazilian on big European nights.
Napoli, though, clearly want to drive a hard bargain, and it remains to be seen which side will blink first.
With Liverpool recently snapping up Fabinho, it’s fair to say that Man City need to get moving in the transfer market if they want to stay ahead of the Reds.
