There are some very glum faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern as the Sunday Express claim that Manchester United target Koke has penned a new deal until 2018 at Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish midfielder is one of the hottest properties in Europe, and had been watched by not only David Moyes’ scouts, but also the main man himself.
This of course led to Diego Simeone and his board to take some rather drastic measures in order to keep the midfielder and Koke has now signed a deal to extend his stay at the club – and more vitally, one that will see the release clause for the player sky-rocket.
Koke previously had a £20 million clause in his deal, but now as our punters note, in a Suarez esq scenario, there is now a £50 million buy out that any potential suitors would have to fork out.
Before he pours the next round of pints, our landlord notes that we have been discussing that Moyes has a huge transfer kitty to play with in order to get the club back on top, but it might take a bit more than money to prise Koke away.
Diego Simeone is building a real top side at the Vicente Calderon and the likes of Diego Costa and Koke are strong believers in the project and the Argentine manager’s vision.
Manchester United fans. Now Koke is off the menu, who would you like to see arriving at Old Trafford? Let us know your thoughts below.
