Grafite’s record at his current club Wolfsburg is nothing short of exceptional. In the league he’s scored fifty goals in just seventy nine games. In 2008/2009 season he and his striker partner Edin Dzeko became the most prolific partnership in German history by scoring fifty four league goals between them. Grafite contributed twenty eight of them in only twenty five games.
Everton certainly need another striker. Yakubu has struggled in recent seasons and Louis Saha, despite his ability, is always going to miss a chunk of the season through injury. While Jermiane Beckford is unproven at Premiership level, the same goes for new boy Magaye Gueye. Victor Anichebe is yet to make a real impact despite playing a fair number of games over the four years he’s been with the first team.
Grafite would be one hell of a swoop for Everton should they pull it off. Questions must be raised as to why Wolfsburg wouldn’t want to keep hold of such a prolific goal scorer though. New manager Steve McClaren must want to keep his best players I would have thought. Apparently McClaren isn’t keen on letting Grafite go but is being overruled by ‘senior management’, whoever they are?!
If Everton can make the deal happen in the next half an hour or so I’d be amazed. If they did it would be one of the top signings of deadline day for me. And you never know, stranger things have happened.
