Chelsea fans are looking a bit downcast here in the Football Transfer Tavern, as Metro claim the Blues have been warned off Southampton’s Luke Shaw.
As we all know, the young starlet is highly rated by a host of clubs in the Premier League, and a couple abroad to boot.
Chelsea were thought to be the front runners for the defender, who has made no secret of his admiration for the club and their current left back, Ashley Cole, who he holds up as his role model in the game.
Now, the high flying Saints have come out fighting to hold onto their prized asset, after it was claimed Chelsea could well make a massive bid for him this winter.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke out about Shaw, through a translator of course, and claimed: “They can show their interest. That’s not something we control.
“But in this individual case he is not a player we are willing to sell. In a sporting manner, he is not for sale.”
Ashley Cole has found himself on the sidelines in recent weeks, and right back Cesar Azpilicueta has been filling in on the opposite flank, yet manager Mourinho is confident Cole can use his attitude and experience to win his place in the side back.
That being said, Chelsea are still keen to bring in a young rising star to develop in the position, with Ryan Bertrand failing to impress Mourinho thus far.
Are Chelsea better off looking elsewhere for a long-term replacement for Cole? Let us know your thoughts below.
