The Blues got the majority of their transfer business done early on in the window and their performances have certainly looked ominous for all of their main competitors this season.
Jose Mourinho is now set on tying down key players at Stamford Bridge as he looks to prolong Chelsea’s success with The Guardian reporting that Eden Hazard is next up.
In the past few weeks the Portuguese manager has already secured the long-term futures of Thibaut Courtois and Cesar Azpilicueta.
But reports suggest that Hazard’s contract will top them all with the Belgian wizard set to agree a £200,000-a-week contract at Stamford Bridge which would make him the Blues’ highest earner ever.
Paris Saint-Germain were linked with a big money move for the Belgian international during the summer but Mourinho is keen to secure his Chelsea future.
Mourinho said: “He means a lot because he’s a fantastic player. We are feeling day by day his motivation to work hard and improve.
“We have big hopes that he will go from the top player he is at this moment and will reach higher levels to become one of the best.
“He is a player who we want to keep, in spite of the fact he has a long-term contract as young as he is. It is true Chelsea are trying to have an agreement over a new contract, and that he wants to stay and commit for a few more years.
“It’s a question of time. One more month, one less month, and he’ll have a new contract.”
