New Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is set to go head-to-head with ex-Blues boss Jose Mourinho for Columbian hotshot midfielder, Fredy Guarin.
To add further spice to the mix, Guarin currently plays for FC Porto, the former club of both managers.
This would however seem to give Villas-Boas an advantage as he has worked extensively with Guarin during his time with Porto. Guarin was particularly effective in Porto’s successful Europa League run, scoring 5 goals.
Earlier this month there were reports that Real were ready to make a bid for the midfielder, however suggestions that the Madrid would match Guarin’s £26m release clause proved to be false. What is undeniable however is that Porto will be looking for as much money as possible.
With rumours rife that Athletico Madrid will offer a huge sum to replace Sergio Aguero with Guarin’s team mate Falcao, and fellow attacker Hulk also tipped to leave, Porto will be readying themselves to rebuild the squad.
The Portuguese champions will demand at least £15m for a player already capped 27 times by Columbia despite being only 25.
With five quality strikers now on the books at Stamford Bridge, Villas-Boas has now turned his attention to midfield options. Porto’s Guarin could be just mixture of youth and experience he is looking for.
