Bojan reportedly had his eye on a Stoke City exit – and the Potters in the Transfer Tavern don’t want to see it happen…
After all, when Bojan joined the club – he was the poster boy for a new start at Stoke City. Gone were the Tony Pulis-led days of long ball football, and in were the days of quick movement and one-touch gameplay that would, in theory, help push Stoke City to the top of the Premier League.
It was a system that, to this day, has proven successful – and Bojan has been a very important part of that. A graduate of the Barcelona academy, Bojan was considered a coup when he was signed, and he duly repaid the faith with a number of stellar performances at the start of his time in the Premier League.
It must be noted, though, that the Spaniard has dropped off in recent months. He has been in and out of the Stoke City first team as of late, with Hughes clearly disappointed with his form – and surely by his own standards, he has not been good enough. Injuries have certainly played a part, but there can be no denying that he has been poor lately.
Talent simply doesn’t fade overnight, though, and for Stoke City – they simply must keep Bojan at the club. Not only is he their most high profile player, but on his day he is one of the Premier League’s best – and that is vital for the Potters going forward. He is quick, technical and a prolific goalscorer – and that is just what Mark Hughes needs.
On a personal note it makes sense too. Bojan has been touted with a Middlesbrough move, and that could very well be a terrible decision by the player. He might get more game time at the Riverside, but who is to say that Karanka’s play style will suit his? What’s more, there is still no guarantee that Middlesbrough will be in the Premier League next season.
Things aren’t perfect at Stoke City for Bojan at present, and that is certainly an issue. But for both player and club, a departure would not make sense.
