Bundesliga outfit, Hannover 96 are reportedly ready to swoop for Bolton target-man Johan Elmander on a free transfer this summer, should the Swedish striker fail to agree a new contract at the Reebok.
The big Swede has been a man transformed under Owen Coyle, who has brought a new, aesthetically pleasing and successful style of play to Bolton, since his arrival in January 2010. Elmander has finally shown this season why Bolton paid a club record transfer fee of £8.2millon to Toulouse for the striker, scoring 10 goals and demonstrating an improved work ethic.
However, Elmander’s contract expires at the end of the season and the Swedish international is yet to commit to a new deal at the Reebok, something which Owen Coyle is keen to resolve as soon as possible,
“The chairman was going to speak with the representatives in the spring which will be in the next couple of weeks.”
“Johan has been incredible for us and he’s got a big big part to play.”
Hannover, who currently occupy the final Champions League spot in 3rd place in the Bundesliga, are keen to add the powerful Swede to their arsenal, which includes former Chelsea and Birmingham man, Mikael Forssell. The chance to sign Elmander on a free appeals to the German club, and the potential lure of Champions League football might be enough to draw him away from the Premier League.
Owen Coyle is desperately hoping that looming contract talks prove successful and the club can hang on to its top scorer; the Scot is building a team which is heading in the right direction and if Elmander can maintain the goal-scoring form he has produced this season, then there’s every reason to believe he could be a crucial player for the Trotters in the years to come.
