Good news for Ed Woodward as Man Utd could be on course to land vitally important deal

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern have been delighted with Jose Mourinho’s leadership…

Since moving to Old Trafford in 2016, the Portuguese has overseen a rapid transformation of the club. Removing a lot of the deadwood whilst also improving his squad dramatically, it’s easy to see just how far the Red Devils have come lately.

After a poor end to his Chelsea tenure, many in the pub were doubting Mourinho, but it is safe to say that’s no longer the case.

It isn’t just the fans that have been impressed with him, though, as a recent report from the Sun suggests. According to the Sun, Man Utd chairman Ed Woodward has been delighted with Mourinho’s leadership, and he feels as though he has finally found the man to replace Sir Alex Ferguson.

As a result, the club are keen to tie down Mourinho long-term, and the Sun reports that Mourinho is ready to do the same – with a new five-year deal potentially on the cards.

This would be a huge boost for the Red Devils and boss Ed Woodward, particularly after the tumultuous few years that followed the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Mourinho has brought consistency, performances and – perhaps most important of all – trophies back to Old Trafford, and so it is no real surprise that the Man Utd brass are happy.

He’s worked wonders, and a new deal makes a lot of sense.

Landlord’s Verdict

Mourinho has not only been able to land top players, but he has also brought the best out of some of Man Utd’s underperforming stars.

Players like Antonio Valencia and Phil Jones have been impressive under the boss, and that deserves a lot of credit too.

He may have time left on his current deal, but tieing him down long-term makes a lot of sense.
