The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side to sign a new midfielder this summer…
It appears as though Jose Mourinho is in agreement, with the Guardian reporting that the manager is keen for his side to step up the chase for Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier. It is noted that Dier himself is open to a move to Old Trafford, which in of itself is massive for the Red Devils, though it isn’t all good news. Significantly, Daniel Levy is said to be refusing to sell the midfielder, potentially closing the door on a move to Old Trafford.
Some of the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern have taken a slightly more positive outlook on the news though, with many recognising that if Dier’s feelings evolve from an openness to a move to having a real desire to move – he could look to force a transfer through. In that sense, it seems likely that Man Utd will continue to knock on Tottenham’s door in hope of a positive resolution.
There is no doubting that it would be worth it for Man Utd to persist with their interest, as Dier is exactly the sort of player that they need. A powerful midfielder with defensive grit, Dier differs from what Man Utd have available to them at present. With the likes of Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera far more offensively minded, they lack that steel – and Dier could certainly provide that.
This saga looks like it could drag on for a while, and whilst our landlord isn’t convinced that a move will come to pass, news of Dier’s interest has certainly given the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern a bit of hope.
