The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern have been longing for the return of Mousa Dembele. The Belgian midfielder has been a stalwart of the Tottenham team since arriving, and he has formed a fantastic partnership with everybody that he has played with. In recent years, he has been aligned with both Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier, and he has really come on as a player. In truth, he’s one of the Premier League’s best, and so he has been really missed during his recent injury layoff.
The rise of Harry Winks has been facilitated by Dembele’s injury, but there’s no doubting that the Belgian will continue to play a key role in the Spurs first team regardless of how well Winks continues to perform. He’s a real fan favourite in the Transfer Tavern, and so it’s no real surprise that the latest update on the Belgian’s fitness has generated quite the reaction in the pub.
As per Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur on Twitter, Dembele has now returned to training – albeit on his own – having been out of action over the last few weeks.

Whilst it remains to be seen just how long Dembele will continue to be out for, it’s clear that the Belgian is slowly getting back to his best, and that’s a very good thing for the Lilywhites. A creative genius in the middle of the park, the way that he transitions the ball from midfield to attack is seamless.
With big games against Man Utd and Real Madrid on the horizon, and London derbies against Crystal Palace and West Ham also forthcoming, Pochettino needs all the depth he can get.
The rise of Winks certainly won’t take any significance away from Dembele, but it will reduce the workload on his shoulders drastically. He’ll be able to share responsibilities with the Englishman, and that should benefit both of them.
His return will be welcomed with open arms by Pochettino.
