West Ham supporters in the Transfer Tavern have been in good voice in the last week or so as their side have finally shown some form.
The East London club lost their opening three Premier League games of the campaign to turn the pressure up a notch on manager Slaven Bilic, yet our resident Hammers were thrilled with their team’s response in beating Huddersfield Town 2-0 last week.
Bilic’s men then picked up a 0-0 draw at West Brom on Saturday to move out of the bottom three, and there may be some more encouraging news for West Ham fans to enjoy if a recent report from TransferMarketWeb (via The Daily Star) is anything to go by.
And that’s because they report that Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is facing an uncertain time at Anfield, and may well be available for transfer when the window reopens in January.
The 28-year-old moved to Merseyside back in 2013 and has since scored 62 goals in 123 games for the Reds, although he has struggled for regular football under Jurgen Klopp since his arrival almost two years ago.
The England international, scorer of eight goals in 25 caps at international level, managed just 20 Premier League appearances last term, of which only seven were starts, and his frustrations have continued into this season with just two starts in their opening five league matches.
And with Philippe Coutinho remaining at Anfield beyond the window, Sturridge’s future first team prospects again look bleak, and reports suggest that his departure from Liverpool is looking all the more likely.
Landlord’s verdict: Daniel Sturridge’s Liverpool future has been up in the air for some time now, but he remained at Anfield beyond the August 31 deadline.
His goal-scoring record is mightily impressive, averaging a goal every two games for the Reds, but manager Jurgen Klopp wants more from the 28-year-old, which is why the likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Philippe Coutinho often get the nod, as they combine everything to give Klopp the forward he desires.
And, as such, Sturridge’s time at Liverpool looks to be coming to an end, which is sure to intrigue and indeed delight West Ham boss Slaven Bilic, who was linked with the striker during the summer.
With the Hammers’ goal-scoring woes so far this term, it’s the sort of signing that could indeed take the club to the next level.
