Championship under-achievers Middlesbrough are lining up a sensational loan bid to give former captain and local boy Jonathan Woodgate a chance to prove his fitness. Tony Mowbray is looking to sure up his faltering backline with this landmark signing in a bid to move away from the relegation zone.
Woodgate, 30, was once considered an England contender at centre-back but a shocking run of injuries stemming from his time with Real Madrid, stopped the Boro-born stopper from ever getting a prolonged run of games. It seems this loan offer would give Harry Redknapp a chance to monitor his fitness without the pressure of picking up injuries in the Spurs starting line up.
Boro may struggle to offer a permanent deal for their former star man but having a player of Woodgate’s experience in their side would be a massive boost for the entire squad. Woodgate would be hoping that should any return to Tees-side happen, he can put together a good run and stay clear of the injury table for good.
Perhaps more importantly for Spurs fans, should the 30-year-old centre-back prove he can stay fit, they will be able to add another classy defender to their already impressive squad.
