Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are discussing the situation at centre-back, with Ramiro Funes Mori now ruled out for the rest of the season.
At the same time, Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka will turn 33 and 35 respectively at the start of next season, so the Tavern’s Toffees punters reckon Ronald Koeman needs to find some depth and youth at centre-back in the summer.
And according to The Daily Mail, the Goodison Park outfit are eyeing up Harry Maguire, who has just turned down the chance to extend his contract at relegation-threatened Hull City, with Steve Walsh adding him to the club’s target list.
Despite the Tigers languishing in 18th place in the Premier League table, the former Sheffield United star’s performances have earned rave reviews in the Tavern this season, particularly demonstrating an ability to bring the ball out of defence – even clocking up two assists from centre-back.
However, Everton are by no means alone in their pursuit of the 24-year-old, with Middlesbrough and Southampton also reportedly keen. The Saints are yet to replace Jose Fonte, who left for West Ham in January, and Middlesbrough could lose Calum Chambers this summer if he returns to parent club Arsenal.
Fans of all three clubs in the Tavern reckon the 6 foot 2 defender has what it takes to step up to the next level – but Hull will surely be determined to keep hold of him if they stave off relegation.
