Bournemouth fans in the Transfer Tavern are concerned by their side’s poor start to the season, with the Cherries yet to pick up points this term.
Eddie Howe’s side have performed fantastically in their years in the top-flight so far but face a fight to retain their status as a Premier League side this season, needing reinforcements in the transfer window’s final week if they’re to move forward.
The Sun claims Bournemouth remain heavily interested in Leicester City’s young winger Demarai Gray and Howe is reportedly readying a fresh bid worth £25m for the England U21 international, having already seen a £20m bid rejected last month.
That figure would see Bournemouth set a club-record for the 21-year-old and Gray himself will be keen on a move if it gets him more minutes in the Premier League, as he’s been frustrated with his lack of opportunities since joining the side in January 2016.
Boss Craig Shakespeare is an admirer of Gray’s ability though and intends to keep him at the King Power Stadium for the forthcoming season.
Bournemouth may well be intent on signing Demarai Gray but the likelihood is Leicester City won’t sell, especially as the Foxes have a battle on their hands keeping Riyad Mahrez. If the Algerian is to stay, then maybe Leicester will consider a sale- but they’re unlikely to get those assurances from their African ace.
A club-record fee won’t be enough for Gray if Mahrez is also on his way out as the Foxes will lack significant depth in the wide areas, which could become problematic as the Premier League campaign progresses.
