Bournemouth were beaten handily by Liverpool at the weekend to continue their poor record against the Premier League top six.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for Liverpool after Asmir Begovic could only parry Roberto Firmino’s shot into the Egyptian’s path – although replays showed Salah in an offside position. Nevertheless, the former Roma winger continued to torment the Bournemouth defence, bagging a hat-trick sensationally. The result for Bournemouth leaves them eighth in the Premier League table, just three points behind Manchester United.
It was another performance to forget for Asmir Begovic between the post as his blunder allowed Salah to open the scoring. Since the start of 2017/18, no player has made more errors (8) directly leading to a goal in the Premier League. If the Cherries are to continue their excellent start to the season, Eddie Howe would be wise to sign a new ‘keeper in January.
One man who should be on his list of targets is Real Madrid shot-stopper – Keylor Navas. Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, the Costa Rica international has been a mainstay between the sticks in Madrid for a number of years, helping them lift three consecutive Champions League trophies. However, Navas has seen his role greatly reduced this season after Madrid opted to sign Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea in the summer. As a result, reports have suggested that the veteran will look to leave the club in January.
The 31-year-old remains a fine goalkeeper who would be a massive upgrade on Begovic. Navas has often been unfairly criticised but displayed his talents during the Champions League final against Liverpool as well as during the World Cup with his country. The goalkeeper has plenty of years remaining at the top level, and the Cherries would be foolish to overlook him.
Potentially available on a free, this move should be a no-brainer for Howe.
