Bournemouth booked their place in the Carabao Cup semi-final with a narrow 2-1 victory over Norwich City.

Eddie Howe’s men took an early lead when Junior Stanislas unleashed an unstoppable shot, but the Canaries equalised after the breakthrough of Onul Hernandez. However, two minutes later, the lead was restored when Steve Cook netted his second goal of the season. The Cherries held on to book their place in the semi-finals of the competition.

Progression to the last four is a testament of Bournemouth’s excellent start to the season. Howe’s men are sitting comfortably in sixth place in the Premier League and have been blowing teams away. If their form continues, there is no reason why they can’t finish in a European place in May.

To give them a welcome boost in the New Year, Bournemouth should attempt to sign Newcastle defender – Jamaal Lascelles. Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, the Englishman has been a key player for the Magpies since joining from Nottingham Forest. He was widely linked with a summer exit but ultimately decided to stay at the club. However, with Newcastle languishing in the relegation zone, he could be tempted to depart.

Lascelles is a leader of men who would thrive alongside Nathan Ake in the heart of defence. The 24-year-old is also a top defender who has been linked with Chelsea and Tottenham in the past. Moving to the Vitality Stadium could give the defender a real chance to impress Gareth Southgate and force his way into the England setup.

If Newcastle are set to cash in on their prized asset, Bournemouth should throw their hat in the ring for his signature.
