Bournemouth have been extremely quiet in the summer transfer window so far.

The Cherries have made just one signing this summer – spending £10m to land promising playmaker, David Brooks, from Sheffield United. Eddie Howe will be looking to build on his 12th place finish in the Premier League last season – a European place may not be out of reach with a few key signings. Howe’s budget is likely to be small, but the Englishman has already made three sales this summer.

Finding a midfielder partner for Lewis Cook will be a priority this summer with Harry Arter linked with an exit. Cook is excellent on the ball and has a fantastic range of passing but lacks a true defensive partner in the engine room. Therefore, Howe needs to land an influential midfielder this summer.

The perfect player could be Levante’s, Jefferson Lerma. Valued at just £1.8m by Transfermarkt, the 23-year-old had a great season in La Liga, making 26 appearances for his side. He travelled with Colombia for the 2018 World Cup and featured in all four of their games before their round of 16 exit.

Lerma is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also play at right-back. He is known for his excellent tackling, averaging two successful tackles per game last season (WhoScored). The Colombian reads the game exceptionally well, averaging 1.9 successful interceptions per 90 minutes.

One issue Lerma must iron out is his discipline. He picked up an incredible 16 yellow cards in La Liga last season. His eagerness to win the ball back can sometimes lead to unnecessary cards. Nevertheless, Lerma would be the perfect partner for Cook at the Vitality Stadium.
