West Ham United have struggled at the back this season, conceding an eye-watering forty-one leagues goals thus far, but on Saturday it was the Hammers who were the aggressors, as they smashed four goals past Huddersfield in an impressive 4-1 win in Yorkshire.
Fans here in The Transfer Tavern were jubilant, telling our landlord over several pints that they were more than confident that Moyes would be the man to guide them to safety this season. However they did acknowledge that their poor efforts at the back must be addressed this month. Many names were mentioned from across the English game, but one fan was keen to see a good old fashioned English centre-half acquired this month, with Bournemouth’s Steve Cook the man he wanted. The 26-year-old has been one of the most consistent players in a Cherries shirt since their promotion to the top flight, and the player could be ready to take the next step following a successful spell on the south coast.
Rated at £6.30m on Transfermarkt, Cook is a fantastic leader in Eddie Howe’s side, and that is something the Hammers have certainly lacked at the back this season. The likes of Winston Reid and Angelo Ogbonna have been found wanting at times, and sourcing Cook could solve this crisis. Not the glamour name some Hammers fans may expect, Cook is a fantastic, reliable defender with a burning passion to win, and he could be the perfect addition to Moyes’ side in the coming weeks.
