Brighton: Fans not sure on Knockaert’s future

Brighton fans are undecided about the future of Anthony Knockaert, who is wanted by Fulham, according to The Sun.

The report suggests that the winger is wanted by the new Championship side for £15million and that they will be willing to increase his wages – allegedly £40,000 a week – if he does come to West London.

After the club parted ways with Ryan Babel and Andre Schurrle, the club need more attacking pedigree on the wings, which is why they seem prepared to break the bank for this experienced winger.

In Brighton’s promotion season in 2017, the winger bagged 15 goals as the club finished second in the league.

He has fantastic Championship experience, which spans over time at Brighton and Leicester City, playing 148 games with 33 goals and 29 assists, according to Transfermarkt.

Knockaert had a decent season for the Seagulls last year, which will be remembered most fondly by Brighton fans for his scorcher to put them 2-1 up against their rivals Crystal Palace in their backyard. He finished as the club’s top assist maker with six, and played 30 times overall in the league – starting 18 and coming on in 12.

With Graham Potter now at the helm, Brighton will be looking to play a more positive brand of football (which Potter has spoken about via The Guardian) and can do with players who have quality.

Knockaert is one of them, something Potter has highlighted. However, the former Swansea City manager revealed that it was not down to him whether he stays this summer.

He told The Argus: “As a coach your mind is on just working with the guys that you’ve got but I also know that it’s football, that there are things that are sometimes out of my control and I have to respect that. But he’s been great to work with and he’s done his best every day.

“Working with him the last two weeks he has given everything every day, really professional.

“We can see his quality – that’s clear. It’s that time of year, of course, when there’s lots of news and speculation.

“From my perspective, I just work with the players we have and try to help them get better.”

A Brighton and Hove Albion fan account @WeAreBrighton on Twitter posted an article on whether or not Knockaert should be sold for £15million.
