Many Brighton fans have responded on Twitter to the news that they have drawn Aston Villa in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup.
Brighton have had it easy on paper for their route so far playing Bristol Rovers away from home. However, they nearly fluffed their lines and required an injury-time winner from the experienced Glenn Murray.
Their game finished 2-1 to Brighton at the Memorial Ground, with Aaron Connolly putting the Seagulls ahead in the 55th minute before Tom Nichols’ equalised with a scorcher in the 64th. The match looked set for penalties before Murray broke Gas hearts as he poached home the winner in the 92nd in typical Murray fashion.
Villa had a more convincing win in their Second Round, dispatching Crewe for six as they hammered them 6-1 away from home. Goals from Ezri Konsa, Keinan Davis, Frederic Guilbert, Jack Grealish and a double from Conor Hourihane made it easy pickings for the away side.
A few Brighton fans have already begun teasing Villa fans ahead of the tie, with some making some jokes on Twitter. A couple of fans have poked fun at their fans, calling them ‘delusional’ and winding them up about their so-called ‘illustrious history’. Others have given a mixed response to the tie.
