With the January transfer window just around the corner, Premier League mangers will be gearing up to make some big moves in the market including Rafael Benitez.
The Newcastle boss was left disappointed in the summer after certain areas of his squad were not strengthened to the point he would have liked, and he is now likely to push Mike Ashley — if he is still owner — into bringing some new recruits to St. James’ Park next month.
And one player the Spaniard is reported to have lined up is £9m-rated (Transfermarkt) Miguel Almiron.
Benitez is believed to be keen on adding the Atlanta United attacking midfielder to his squad as soon as the transfer window opens, and the player’s father has confirmed Newcastle are in the driving seat for his son’s signature.
“He will definitely go to England,” Ruben Almiron was quoted saying by the Daily Mirror. “What’s left to be decided is to what club but Newcastle is the one with the advantage.”
Looking at this Newcastle side, a player of Almiron’s profile is something they could definitely do with heading into the second half of the season.
However, considering Almiron would be coming from a league like the MLS, which is pretty weak compared to most of its European counterparts, it could take quite a while for the Paraguay international to adapt while his signing would be a gamble overall.
All things considered, though, Benitez and Newcastle are definitely on the right track by targeting players who can improve the attacking positions behind the striker.
