Arsenal's summer business so far this summer has been superb but they could be about to make a massive mistake.

Unai Emery has made five new signings including a deal for Bernd Leno but according to Spanish publication, Marca Arsenal in talks to sign Switzerland goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

The Borussia Monchengladbach shot-stopper was one of the better performers during the World Cup and according to the report, he is now ready to leave Germany.

The Breakdown

A goalkeeper that's never taken the spotlight, Sommer has had a solid career in Germany without ever really impressing.

The 'keeper has managed to play 39 games for his country and according to the report has also attracted interest from Barcelona should the club sell Jasper Cillesen.

The news of Arsenal being in talks with Sommer comes as Petr Cech has been linked with a return back to Chelsea, while Kasper Schmeichel has also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge if Thibaut Courtois departs for Real Madrid.

As it stands, Arsenal have no need to make a move for Sommer. Bernd Leno was brought in this summer to contend with and eventually take Petr Cech's first-team spot. While David Ospina will likely leave Arsenal this summer, the Gunners would be wise to keep Cech on their books for his title-winning experience.

While he may have had a poor season by his standards last year, Cech is still a good quality goalkeeper and could be a strong second-choice backup. Sommer is a good goalkeeper but as it stands it doesn't really make sense for the Gunners.
