Steve Bruce has taken advantage of his former club by offering Craig Gardner an opportunity to forget the worries circling around the west midlands, and continue playing top flight football as a Sunderland player.
The Daily Mail has reported Black cats man in charge, Bruce swooped down on St Andrews with a £5m offer just 24 hours after the controversial exit made by Alex MacLeish.
The sale of Jordan Henderson to Liverpool has loaded Bruce’s pocket with burning cash and he is keen to land the Birmingham fan, fan favourite as a new edition to the middle of the park.
Gardner who proved to be a real warrior for his boyhood team last season netted 10 times finishing the campaign as brum’s top scorer in all competitions helping them lift the carling cup, plus his last day goal came mighty close keeping them in the top flight.
Sky Sports has revealed Newcastle have also joined the race to land the midfielder.
I think Birmingham will struggle to hold on to their prized asset and you have to feel Gardners assistance will be required in the top flight come the new season.
