There are some disappointed looks around the Football Transfer Tavern as The Express reports that Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski has confirmed that he will be staying in Germany despite speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea.
The Polish international striker is expected to make the switch to Bayern Munich next summer when his contract expires but after their pursuit for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney went cold, Jose Mourinho was thought to be looking at the 24-year-old.
“We have conditions to try to improve our team with one more player,” said Mourinho. “But we do have a Plan B and a Plan C.”
While the new Blues boss may have lined up a move for the striker who put his Real Madrid side to the sword with four goals in the Champions League last season, reports from Germany suggest that he won’t be leaving the Bundesliga after tripling his wages his wages at Jurgen Klopp’s side.
“The situation is now that I will stay in Dortmund for one more year,” Lewandowski told German newspaper Bild. “We have put aside all disagreements and have cleared the air. There were mistakes made but the case is closed.
“I had a different starting point. I thought I was allowed to transfer. I was then disappointed and angry. But now everything is calm. I have always said I would respect my contract.
“BVB (Dortmund) are ready to mount an attack for every title. We are chasing Bayern.”
