According to the Daily Star, the Magpies are set to lose out on Hertha Berlin striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga.
Reports suggest that Newcastle representatives held talks with the 22-year-old striker over a potential move to St. James’ Park in a deal worth up to £7 million.
However it now seems more than likely that he will joining Bundesliga side Hamburg – where he was on loan last season – and a permanent deal could be finalised today as they look set to meet his demands.
Lasogga would have been Newcastle’s second main signing of the season following the arrival of Jack Colback from arch-rivals Sunderland.
They have of course signed Tenerife striker Ayoze Perez, but he’s not yet expected to fight for a first team place.
