It is the first time that the pair have met since the Blades sued the East London outfit over transfer irregularities when the Argentine star arrived on deadline day with Javier Mascherano in 2006.
New Hammers boss Sam Allardyce will be hoping to tie up all his transfer dealings before deadline day however as he looks to bring a new centre back to Upton Park.
And according to the Daily Mail, the former Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers boss has enquired about Bayer Leverkusen defender Phillipp Wollscheid.
The 25-year-old centre back has spent the last two years at Leverkusen and played 24 times in the Bundesliga last season.
But despite being a semi-regular in the side at the Bay Arena, the club have revealed that they will listen to offers for the defender and the Hammers are poised to make a move.
The imposing 6 ft 3 in defender has two caps for Germany and has also attracted the interest of Hull City and Southampton.
However both clubs have turned their attentions elsewhere with the Tigers closing in on Michael Dawson and Southampton hopeful of securing a deal for Toby Alderweireld.
