Any player that talks to the press a lot will inevitably encourage rumours but Kerrydale Street sources indicate that Gary Caldwell may be on his way out of Celtic in January. Last seasons Scottish Writers player of the year has started 2009/10 in questionable form but the defender/midfielder, nicknamed “heid” by Celtic fans has went public on his wage demands for his new contract. This has went down like a lead balloon at Celtic Park with boss Tony Mowbray indicating the player may not be worth what he thinks he is.
An “escape route” for the Scottish internationalist may come from Burnley, managed by Owen Coyle, the Scottish born manager. Burnley already have Steven Caldwell, Gary’s brother in their squad and a Caldwell double act may be just what is required to ensure they retain their Premier League status at the first time of asking. With the player out of contract in the summer, Burnley may hold off to get their man for nothing but his experience may prove vital in the run in.
Does this rumour sound like it came from someone who had one too many? Will a Caldwell double act be enough to save Burnley from the drop? Should this rumour fly or die?
