Burnley had a solid, if not outstanding campaign in the Premier League last time out, as manager Sean Dyche guided the Clarets to a first ever European campaign for the upcoming season.
The former Watford manager has made a habit of making his team hard to beat and gets the best out of players who many would think would not be able to perform to the level they reach in the Premier League on a consistent basis.
However, they continue to defy the odds, and they have drawn quite the following from the fans of other clubs here in the Tavern for their way of doing things and general style of play, and our landlord is hopeful that their current run can continue and they remain a Premier League fixture for years to come.
To so though, the club will need to keep making improvements to the squad, and there will come a time when some bigger sums need to be spent by the club.
One player who the club could look to sign and spend big on is Manchester United defender Chris Smalling, who is valued at a cool £16.2m by Transfermarkt.
Smalling has been a mainstay of the United team for a few seasons now, but is no longer guaranteed a start under Jose Mourinho, with the likes of Phil Jones and Eric Bailly ahead of him in the pecking order, and a young Victor Lindelof continuing to improve.
Smalling is a class and experienced Premier League act though, and with Burnley bound to see plenty of interest in now England international James Tarkowski, it could well be a wise move for the Clarets and Sean Dyche to make their move for someone like Smalling this summer.
