Burnley are in desperate need of January reinforcements to help steer them away from the Premier League relegation zone.

The Clarets were the surprise package of last season, securing a seventh-placed finish in the Premier League, earning a place in the Europa League. Sean Dyche’s side exited the competition before the group stage, and their dismal form continued in the Premier League. Burnley are just one point above the relegation zone with just nine points from their opening 13 games – 13 points fewer than at this stage last season.

Burnley have struggled for goals this season, a lack of creativity in midfield has meant Dyche’s side have been unable to carve open defences. Therefore, a playmaker should be top of their priority list in the January transfer window.

One man who should be on his shortlist is Celta Vigo starlet – Brais Mendez. Valued at £5.4m by Transfermarkt, Mendez has been one of the standout stars in La Liga after establishing himself as a first-team regular. The youngster has been in fine form, with three goals and three assists in just eight starts, earning him a place in the Spain national team; Mendez made a goal scoring start to his senior national career.

The 21-year-old would add some much-needed creativity to the Burnley midfield and help their forwards rediscover this best form in front of goal. Averaging 2.1 key passes per game this season, the Spaniard is primarily a number ten but is also comfortable on the wing, making him a useful option for Dyche to have at his disposal. Still improving and developing with every game, Mendez has all the attributes to be a Premier League star.

If Burnley could secure the signature of this hot prospect, the feel-good factor would return to Turf Moor.
