The Burnley fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to the new season which will see their club play European football for the first time in more than 50 years, and recent reports suggest they are set to make a double swoop on West Bromwich Albion for two of their prize assets.
According to the Daily Mirror, Burnley have tabled a £25 million bid for Jay Rodriguez and Craig Dawson in order to bolster their options ahead of the new season. Although the aforementioned pairing were related with the Baggies last season, both players were bright sparks amidst a sobering campaign for the club and proved they have the quality to remain in the Premier League next season.
Whether Sean Dyche will be successful in his pursuit of the West Brom players remains to be seen, but the supporters will be desperately hoping that an agreement can be reached in the coming weeks.
With the prospect of Europa League football looming on the horizon at Turf Moor, Dyche will need to improve the depth of his squad to ensure his side can cope with the Thursday night hoodoo which often scuppers momentum for Premier League sides competing in the tournament.
Adding Craig Dawson (valued at £7.2 million by Transfermarkt) to their back-line will provide Burnley with a versatile option in defence who is capable of performing an admirable job right the way across the back-four, whilst Jay Rodriguez (valued at £10.8 million by Transfermarkt) will add tenacious work-rate and a touch of flair in the final-third which will undoubtedly improve the Clarets’ potency.
Qualifying for Europe once again next season will not represent a simple task for Sean Dyche’s side – especially given the extra games they will need to add to their calendar – but the pragmatic acquisitions of Dawson and Rodriguez would certainly give them a huge boost in their bid to finish inside the top-7 once again.
