The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the news that Joe Gomez will miss the rest of the season and the World Cup after undergoing an operation on an ankle injury. The news was broken to fans via the Liverpool website, and although he’s missing the World Cup with England, he’ll be fit in time to resume pre-season with Liverpool ahead of the 2018/19 season.

Gomez was signed from Charlton by Brendan Rodgers ahead of the 2014/15 season, although he suffered a nasty knee injury that kept him out of action for almost a year. Since his return, he’s been fortunate enough to make a handful of appearances under Jurgen Klopp and he’s been juggling the right-back role with Trent Alexander-Arnold in the absence of the regular right-back Nathaniel Clyne.
The gutting thing for Gomez now is that he has no chance of featuring in the Champions League final in Kiev in just under three weeks time and he’ll also be missing the World Cup with England, two of the biggest tournaments that a player can win in their career. It’s unlikely that the 20-year-old will be disheartened though, he has his whole career ahead of him and with Klopp putting his faith in the defender on a number of occasions it’s just a matter of time before he wins some silverware.
