Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern are optimistic for next season if Rafael Benitez stays at the club but are disappointed with the latest developments from St. James Park.
Rumours are circulating that fan favourite Ayoze Perez could be set to leave the club. West Ham and Real Betis are both interested in luring the Spaniard from Tyneside. The forward netted six goals in the last eight games of the season to help Newcastle finish 10th in the Premier League; they are desperate to keep him.
Should Perez depart, he will need replacing. Benitez needs a goalscorer if the club are to finish in a European place next season. On their shortlist should be former Liverpool striker – Iago Aspas. Though the Spaniard struggled during his time in England, the 30-year-old has torn La Liga apart this season.
Aspas has netted 20 goals and notched five assists for Celta Vigo – averaging a goal every 144 minutes. His value has skyrocketed as a result of his form with Transfermarkt now valuing him at £18m. He can operate from the right wing or through the centre which would make him a valuable option for Benitez.
The Spanish international has averaged more key passes, dribbles and shots per game than Perez according to WhoScored. He deserves a second chance to prove he can be a success in the Premier League and Newcastle could benefit greatly from taking a risk to sign him.
