It has been reported that Bolton and England defender Gary Cahill is on the verge of signing with Tottenham Hotspur. According to Tuttomercatoweb, they believe that it is a done deal. The Bolton defender has also been linked with moves to Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal.
Bolton have endured a horrid start to the season and by selling their most prized asset will not help their cause. While Cahill has not been at his best this season, he does look like a player that has his mind elsewhere.
The England defender was very close to joing Tottenham on the last day of the season, but the deal hit an impasse as both clubs failed to decide a suitable fee. Harry Redknapp has not been shy in expressing his admiration for Cahill and will be keen for Daniel Levy to beat off Premier League competition for his signature. Bolton manager Owen Coyle knows that January will be their last opportunity to cash in on Cahill conceding that the 25-year-old will not sign a new deal with the club.
Harry Redknapp will also be eager for Tottenham to sort out a deal with QPR over the possible sale of Bassong this January and use the money to sign Cahill. Bassong’s move to QPR in the summer failed to materialise after Spurs failed in their attempt to land Cahill.
According to media Tuttomercatoweb Tottenham have begun discussions with Cahill’s representatives over a possible move and will be hoping to secure the deal this time round. The 25-year-old didn’t have the best of afternoons at White Hart Lane on Saturday, after he was sent off in the first half during their 3-0 defeat to Tottenham. It is believed that the England international is reluctant to stay at the Reebok stadium and is desperate to leave the club as soon as possible.
