Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are disappointed with Aston Villa’s confidence heading into the summer after talkSPORT revealed that Tim Sherwood is “convinced” that the Reds’ target Christian Benteke, will stay at Villa Park next season.
The Belgian international has sent the transfer rumour mill through the roof following his strong end to the season.
The powerful forward finally stepped up to the plate after Sherwood revilatised his form, which has been an influential part in ensuring Villa’s safety in the Premier League.
He has now scored 15 goals this season and this has led to him being linked with some big name clubs including Chelsea and Arsenal, with Liverpool being firm favourites.
Despite the numerous stories, Sherwood is hopeful his savior will stay on next season.
“Christian is only a young man but he’s very mature in the way he behaves,” he said. “I think he’s handled the situation well.
“I have no reason to believe he wants to seek employment elsewhere. He seems to be very happy here and this morning, at training, he was smiling.
“He knows there are big games coming up in Sunday and the cup final and I think he wants to be at this football club. I’m convinced of that.”
If Villa do opt to sell the striker they will undoubtedly drive a hard bargain and if Liverpool do sell Raheem Sterling, then Brendan Rodgers could use those funds to match their price tag.
