Newcastle are set to strengthen their squad by tabling a bid for Swiss midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta. Barnetta, who can play anywhere across midfield, behind the striker or on the wing, could be a brilliant acquisition for Alan Pardew.
Pardew has wanted to sign Barnetta for some time now, even dating back to West Ham days, and he could finally get his man, but for how much?
Barnetta is still under contract for the next 18 months, and is currently injured, but is worth a gamble as a relative star of the last two World Cups in an uninspiring Swiss team.
Will the Toon army be happy with an unknown signing for their club? With the rumours surrounding Andy Caroll’s future becoming more frequent, would they rather an out-and-out striker to stick the ball in the back of the net?
Or will Arsene Wenger rain on Pardew’s parade?
