Sir Alex Ferguson was spotted at the Old Firm Derby over the weekend, and it wasn’t just the result he was interested in. Manchester United are very interested in acquiring Celtic left-back, Emilio Izaguirre.
After an impressive display at the World Cup with his national side, the Honduran signed for Celtic at the start of the season, choosing them over a host of clubs that were desperate to land his signature. It’s rumoured that Ferguson sees the 24 year old as the natural successor to Patrice Evra, who is reported to want away from United when his contract runs out in 2012.
Izaguirre has had a good season at Celtic, even scoring one goal against St. Johnstone. He joined them straight from Honduras, where he played for Motagua. Quite what he makes to a cold, wet and windy Old Firm derby is another matter.
His own country has been described as ‘a land of turqouise waters, pristine beaches, lush jungles, breathtaking mountains, challenging rivers and fascinating ancient ruins.’ He should enjoy Manchester then!
