Capello’s Better For Chelsea Than Di Matteo …And We Spell Why…

The latest reports surrounding the future Chelsea manager today have former England coach Fabio Capello as a leading contender.

Should Roberto Di Matteo lose his job after Saturday’s Champions League final then Capello has been touted as a possible replacement. I think most Chelsea fans would be happy with Capello if Abrmaovich decides against giving RDM a chance at the full time job.

In my eyes Capello would be a perfect fit for Chelsea with his firm but fair style, winning mentality and style of play.

It has been reported that Capello has already spoken to Abramovich and is keen on the idea of taking over at the Bridge.

Capello has a proven track record that rivals any coach out there, he has achieved league success numerous times, cup success numerous times, Champions League success and international success.

In Capello’s last 3 jobs he has achieved an incredible win percentage. At Juventus his win percentage was 69.74%, at Real Madrid it was 60.53% and finally with England it was 66.67% making him statistically England’s best ever manager.

He won Serie A four times with AC Milan, once with Roma and twice with Juventus. He also won La Liga twice with Real Madrid along with numerous Italian cups and the Champions League.

Although he come in for some criticism during his spell as England manager – most notably after England’s 4-1 last 16 elimination to Germany at the 2010 World Cup – the lack of success with England was more down to the fact that our squad isn’t good enough to compete at that level rather than the manager, proof is in the fact that numerous managers have tried and failed since Sir Alf Ramsey meaning it’s about time we started to look at the players rather than the manager.

So his credentials live up to the expectations of a club like Chelsea but what else is a positive about Capello?

Well his relationship with the English players in the dressing room is a bonus, Lampard, Cole, Cahill and especially captain John Terry have good working relationships with Capello meaning the dressing room would respect and play for him from the get go.

His style of play probably isn’t what Abramovich wants as Capello is not well known for his free flowing attacking style. However, Capello’s style does suit the players we have right now and he may be able to take us back to the days when our defence was like a fortress and we was well known for our power and defensive capabilities.

We would all like to see entertaining attacking football and win trophies but I’m sure all Chelsea fans would love to see us return to the Mourinho style and win Premier League titles again.

four of the last eleven Chelsea manager’s have been Italian, Vialli, Ranieri, Ancelotti and now Di Matteo. Aside from Mourinho and Hiddinkn to a degree Italian managers have always been the most successful at Chelsea.

Vialli won the FA Cup and League Cup amongst others, Ranieri took us through our transitional period under Abramovich and took us into the Champions League, Ancelotti won our first double and now Di Matteo has won an FA Cup and got to a Champions League final! This can not be coinsidence.

In my eyes there is only 3 contenders for this job, with them being Mourinho or though that seems dead in the water, RDM who has earned a crack at the job or Capello who’s record, knowledge/relationship with the players, and style suit us to the ground.

What about it Chelsea fans…Capello, si or non?
